We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds and nationalities. You do not need any qualifications to be a prison visitor, but a general sense of compassion and an ability to listen.
Volunteers are independent
and spend their time and resources visiting detainees and making them aware of their rights in detention, securing legal advice, and in their general well-being and welfare.Much of the work involves listening to a detainee and seeing what options are available to them. The time spent visiting each detainee is about a few hours every few weeks, but this largely depends on the volunteer's other commitments.
Volunteers are not
paid, although the Visitors' group may meet some of the expenses, such as travel.
Generally, any foreign prisoner may request a visit from the group.
